hi! my name is Jaira (Jair-uh)

i'm a multidisciplinary artist, herbalist/gardener, & relational guide ~

my love for cyanotypes was seeded during a summer visit back home to Kansas. i was subletting a room in my best friend's house and noticed her roommate doing an art project every week where she would go outside for a few minutes, then come back in to rinse something off in the sink...

i thought this was a peculiar process, and asked about it. i was then told all about cyanotype!

a few months later, i return to my home on Maui and notice the monstera leaves dancing in the kitchen window. the pattern reminded me of a dress i had just gotten at a clothing swap, and i instantly thought "that would be such a cool cyanotype shirt!" as i remembered seeing my friend's roommate make a cyanotype onesie for her niece.

 

i made a run of 8 botanical shirts that i sold to an art studio that i create for, and when i showed photos to friends, they were impressed and encouraged me to continue creating the gem that is now SUN KISSED! i feel super blessed to be working with the plants in creating one of a kind, functional, handmade art :,)
